Every year design professionals flock to a place called High Point market, located in High Point, North Carolina. In this otherwise sleepy town, designers come twice a year to learn about new decor trends, color forecasts, new materials and more. If you have followed my blog for any amount of time this is by far my most popular post if you’re remodeling or building a house because High Point market is Mecca for the interior design trade.
So what did I see? What can you expect within the next two years? Well the forecast may shock you! And fair warning, this post is long because I have a lot of photos to share!
Hottest interior design trends for 2018 and 2019
Beige and brown are back!! If you never got around to embracing the grey trend, well guess what? You’re back in!
Tribal patterns and color palettes of black, white, caramel combined with organics
Orange and red are making a swift comeback!
Warm neutrals, gold, browns, and organics
It appears that the color trend is coming to a soft close. Color was almost completely devoid at this market and neutrals reined supreme. A direct reflection of the current political climate I’m sure. When ever it’s an election year it always creates a siesmic shift in the decor and fashion industries. I think more than ever consumers will start to crave the warmth of deeper color palettes and warmer woods along with the feeling of bringing the serenity of nature indoors. Everybody wants calm.
Many consumers are not feeling attracted to bright, cool colors mainly because that doesn’t reflect their mood. They are craving a nest that brings understanding, friendliness and closeness. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this trend manifests fully by fall market in October. Stay tuned, 2018 and 2019 just might shock us all!

I am so glad neutrals are on the horizon! We redecorated last year and mocha is my color. It’s soft, warm and blends great with so much. 8 years ago, we remodeled our kitchen. I ordered painted maple cabinets done in a vanilla bean with a chocolate glaze on the raised panel edges. They are beautiful. For the back splash and front of the peninsula I ordered the coordinating wainscoting. The walls are mocha. I loved it all so much that last year I continured with the mocha in the living room. It just breathes a calmness in the air. I love your website! Thanks for all the great pics and info.
Jeri-Lynn, could you please give me brand and colors of your paints for cabinets and walls? Sounds beautiful!
Beautiful craftsmanship… I love it all. <3<3<3<3
Im not one for colourful abodes but I saw a lovely home in the Sunday Times Style magazine designed by a woman called Trilby Gordon that completely changed my mind regarding using colour. Her designs felt fresh and modern and exciting. Her style made my relatively safe and neutral home feel antiquated, boring and old fashioned. I need a home makeover by her!
2018 and 2019 looks like another boring year for interior design – beige and lumpy. Ah but look !!! in the other direction – hooray!!! colour!!!
Haha, yes there’s always color to save the day!

I love the idea about tribal patterns and color palettes of black, white, caramel combined with organics! It looks so class, modern, and luxury at the same time. I’m sure I will decorate my home somehow similar. 🙂 Just need your advice. I also want to get some window treatments. Thinking about roller blinds for a bedroom. What is your opinion about such choice? I would take some simple and nice design I think they have the most luxury and good-quality products. 🙂 All pictures are so unique… But what about the popularity of roller blinds in general?
Linda
I’ve used roller shades for years. They are easy to clean and give a more modern look if that is what you are after!

I also want to ask about window treatments. My house is small and living room as well. So i want some vertical blinds. What would be the best desing for small room? I looked for patterned blinds online but maybe i should stay with simple one color blinds?
You know, when I saw the 2017 trend “greenery” I was like no no no, but then I realized that there was a ton of ways to used it (paint, furniture, throw pillows, vases, even plants!) so it could be more like a pop up color, and it looked great. But I feel like 2018 interior design looks are going to be more modern with traditional colors though.
you’re on top of it! agree with you on these trends.
Modern ideas! Love that color palette and how colors match together and creates that cozy atmosphere. Love your style and all those small details like mirrors, vases, plants and paintings. Thanks
Most of those pictures look so old fashion , interior design is very earthy and not like the grandmother house there is much better design that that ! Let’s make America more out of the box
Yay! Color is coming back! I don’t care so much for myself, as I’ll decorate my house based on what I like–which is NOT white and gray like I’m seeing everywhere. I’m excited for color and warmth coming back, however, so that I’ll enjoy my HGTV shows more. Everything has been looking the same, boring way!!
Yay for color! 🙂
Amanda
Although I’m not entirely excited that brown is coming back, I am glad the trend of black and white are coming to an end, and colors are coming back into fashion. I wonder, though, if that color trend goes for metals too. Thank you very much for sharing!
Well hum…we just totally reno’ed our home after living in it 3 years…was best decision. But we have a kiddo on the Spectrum and after gathering colors, fabrics to try and flooring etc we went for the calm. I love color so I get a little of it. But wow the change in our 7 year old. He’s a different kid after going for the “blah” greys and darker softer warmer tones. At least we gotten compliments figured when people come over they either like it or don’t. Must have done good they’ve asked for the name of the designer..even our two cointractors…they were shocked that it was just my husband and I. Thanks for people like you blogging and posting us normal folk can pull from it.
Hi Amanda, great selection of design trends for 2019. Terrazzo is also making a comeback and it looks like it’s going to be a popular trend for this year.
I personally like warm neutral colors it makes you feel comfy and relaxed. I also noticed a lot of people using patterns in their interior design. Great blog by the way and thanks for sharing!
Great interior design I have ever seen and thanks for sharing such valuable content and sharing knowledge.
