It’s no secret.  Every commercial cleaner at the super market geared to help you clean your home is likely toxic to your health. Now more than ever you should be taking matters into our own hands and making your own cleaners to help keep your family and home safe. The benefit to homemade cleaners is you avoid harmful chemicals found in all commercial products and if you aren’t convinced, homemade is far more economical too!

I’ve been making my own cleaners for about five years now and wanted to share some easy recipes to help others get on the homemade path too. Another great perk to making your own, you know EXACTLY what’s in it. That’s a win-win!

  • Multipurpose Cleaner:
Combine 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar with 1 cup water In a spray bottle with 10 to 20 drops of tea tree and lemon essential oil. Shake before using.
  • Homemade Scrub:
Thoroughly mix 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup coarse salt in a bowl. For extra whitening power, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. The perfect scrubby scrub!
  • Washing Soda:
Hard water build up could be to blame for dirty bathroom tiles. Descale by mixing 1/2 cup washing soda with 1 bucket of warm water. Wearing gloves, wash the surface then rinse. Voila!

Did You Know Your Cleaning Products Are Toxic?

In addition, it’s important to understand what chemicals are in your current cleaning products so you can know what to avoid. If making your own doesn’t seem like a plausible option be sure to buy cleaners without these four ingredients – and do your homework – because many manufacturers will use different names to mask the truth.
