If David and I had a backyard this is exactly the type of home office I would want. The idea of having a separate space from the house would be a great little separation of work, without the long commute. Now don’t get me wrong, I love rolling out of bed and going downstairs to the office. It definitely has its perks. And I wouldn’t have to go outside in the elements. Which depending on the time of year could be enough to prevent me from even going to work. But with that said, let’s pretend it’s summer year round, and walking to my separate space office would be a dream!
I think one of the biggest challenges of working from home is leaving the work at work. When I had a large studio a couple of years ago I got up every morning, just like the average American, and drove into work everyday. That part kinda sucked. Having to do all that everyday for a creative person gets really boring, and feels way too responsible. But the perk to having actual office space was being able to lock the door at night and leave the work at work.
Working from home means constant office hours. If I get a stroke of inspiration I immediately run to my office and start working. I also start work at 7-730 in the morning, which did not occur when I had a separate office space. But on the flip side, I no longer have to do the whole hair and make-up thing every single day, and I get to take breaks with my cat and hang in the garden. Way cool! So no complaints here. But in a perfect world, I would have one of these beautiful pods in my backyard where my team and I could work in a state of bliss, and create pure magic – while leaving the state of my house somewhat in tack! Check them out, aren’t they cool?
How to quickly add a stylish home office to your backyard
I also think it would be great to have an office filled with sunlight and nature to inspire our creative work. And as an added bonus we could add a picnic table outside for import meetings and presentation. Ahhhh, can you hear the possibility? So until I have the opportunity to harbor such magic in my backyard, I will go back to daydreaming and a messy dining room!
