Being an interior designer can be a lot of fun. I’m surrounded by tons of house candy in delicious colors and shapes, that make a house into a home. But all of these pretty items require behind-the-scenes magic to make them work. Case in point, beautiful vintage rugs that need rug pads that don’t budge, off-gas, or ruin the floors!

Being that I am an eco-friendly designer it is my job and duty to make the best recommendations to my clients. Especially to preserve their beautiful vintage rugs without ruining their hand-scraped walnut floors. One item I find my clients constantly asking about is rug pads. They can be difficult to find if you don’t know what to look for. And any quick trip to the big box store leaves you with chemical laden, rubber crap, that is bound to ruin your floors and releases toxins into your home.

A lot of home companies do offer rug pads but they are of the cheaper variety. They can yellow your prized rugs, break them down and discolor the floor. About a year ago I had a client who’s rug was turning to dust because the chemicals in both the rug and rug pad had a chemical reaction – ummmm, that is definitely NOT good for your health.

A few weeks ago I tried out a couple of rug pads from rugpadusa.com for some upcoming installations that have irreplaceable vintage, one-of-a-kind rugs. So far this unsexy household item is making me pretty darn happy.

This list pretty much covers all my key points for anything I place in a client’s homes. Especially if they have children. So much of the crap that comes from overseas is inexpensive because it is made of substandard materials that release chemicals into your home. Not to mention the harm it does to your rug and floors. And even though this is an unsexy necessity, buying a quality rug pad that will last 20+ years is well worth the investment! My vintage rugs are definitely going to be happy!

I am not affiliated with rugpadusa.com and I wrote this review for all my clients and readers who want a quality resource.
