There is nothing quite like having a clean house. Not only does it look good, but it feels good… both physically and mentally. A clean home instantly helps you inhale in the good and exhale the bad. It opens you and your home to being filled with good energies. Nothing does the soul better than good energy, right?

If you’re like us then every so often it strikes your fancy to get down to the nitty gritty and really put that elbow grease into it as you deep clean your home. After you’ve cleaned everything (with all natural solutions like vinegar) from the baseboards to the ceiling fan you might decide to top it off with a few spritz of air freshener. Well hold the phone! If you’re reaching for that store-bought aerosol can, stop it right now and drop that baby into the garbage. I’m sure the last thing you want to do is douse your house in chemicals. Store-bought air fresheners contain two harmful chemicals and those are benzene and formaldehyde. Not good. They’re harmful to not only humans but also to your family members of the house pet variety. They can cause eye irritation, respiratory trouble, and with high exposure levels they’ve even been linked to cancer. But don’t get distraught! Because there are a few all natural options available to freshen your home.

Apple Peels and Ginger

This is a great seasonal choice for fall and winter. All you need is ginger, lemon juice and a big handful of apple peels. Place your ingredients in a pan and cover them with water. Bring the concoction to a boil and then let it simmer until the water has evaporated.

Spicy Potpourri

If you’re looking for something with a bit more kick, mix one ounce of cinnamon sticks with one can whole cloves and one can allspice in a reusable baggie. Take one teaspoon of the spice blend and mix it with one cup of water on the stove. Let the mixture simmer to create a spicy potpourri.

Vanilla Spritzer

For an easy, all-purpose air freshener, combine a few drops of vanilla extract with a cup of water and put it in a spray bottle. You can use this anywhere in the house to dispel those funky smells.
