Americans – the unwitting, unwilling and uninformed

PLEASE READ! From my friend, Lori Jacobs, on the hazards in our food. To hear my podcast with her on the art of healing naturally, click here.

Dear Friends,                                                                                             September 2013

How I wish that more people had the knowledge they needed to be healthy, have healthy children and grow to enjoy a ripe old age.  But more than that I wish that it wasn’t necessary for you to need this knowledge, that when you ate a meal it would be full of nutrition and life giving energy. I pray every day for you, my family and friends to enjoy health, happiness and a life lived in the Light.

Sadly our food has become so tainted and synthesized that it can hardly be called food; so for the sake of correctness, I will call it phood. The fact you have subscribed to my newsletter indicates that you are more informed than the average person and much of this information may not surprise you but please feel free to pass it on to any of your friends who may be having health issues.

As the GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) GE (Genetically Engineered) incursion persists in America we find ourselves the unwitting, unwilling and uninformed subjects of the largest human experiment ever undertaken. Because it is such a complex subject I will confine this newsletter to just two crops: BT corn and BT soy. These crops are altered at the genetic level and have genes from a bacteria called Bacillus thuringiensis, spliced into their natural genetic code. This causes the plant to produce Bt-toxin—a pesticide that bursts the stomach of insects that eat it, killing them.  Approved in 1995, GE corn and soy make up 90% of the corn & soy sold in America today.  Keep in mind that there are NO label requirements.  Therefore food companies do not have to label their ingredients as GMOs.

Farmers have used Bt-toxin from soil bacteria as a natural pesticide for years. But they spray it on plants, where it washes off and biodegrades in sunlight.  The GE version the Bt-toxin is built into every plant cell. The toxin doesn’t wash off; it is consumed.  Furthermore, the plant-produced version of the poison is thousands of times more concentrated than the spray. It actually fails the World Health Organization’s allergen screening tests.

Scientists in Norway published a decade long study of rats, mice, pigs and salmon fed on GE feed. (Forskning July 11,2012)  They found that due to alterations in their digestive tracts, these animals ate more, got fatter and were less able to digest proteins; they also suffered from diminished immune systems.  The impaired ability to digest proteins may be of particular concern as this can have far-reaching implications for your health.  If your body cannot digest proteins, it will be less able to produce amino acids, which are the necessary building blocks for proper cell growth and function.  This may account for the rapid rise in many autoimmune disorders, diabetes, digestive diseases and sterility since the introduction of GE crops.

Contrary to bio-industry safety claims, Sherbrooke University Hospital in Quebec found the BT-toxin in 93% of pregnant women tested and 80% of babies.  Government sponsored research in Italy found that mice fed BT corn showed a wide spread range of immune responses associated with allergies, infections and autoimmune diseases such as elevated interleukins and IgE and IgG antibodies.

Monsanto and Syngenta tests claiming that GE crops were safe for humans because the BT-toxin would be completely destroyed in the human digestive system and would not have any impact on animals and humans. These, and many more studies prove that the Monsanto and Syngenta research to be completely false.  In fact virtually the only studies that claim GE crops to be safe appears to be bio-industry generated research.  Hmmm I guess this is why we don’t have foxes guarding the henhouse.

So what can be done? We need to support our small local and organic farmers who are still practicing common sense agriculture such as soil preservation, diversity and synergy between plants and animals.  Avoid corn (almost any processed phood has some form of corn in it), soy, canola and cottonseed; unless you buy organic. Which provokes the question; how can we sustain organic crops when they have crossbred with the neighboring farms GMO crop?

There is also mounting evidence that the spread of GE crops are responsible for the dramatic decline of the Monarch butterfly, the near annihilation of bats and the honeybee colony collapse.

Please educate yourself so you can make good choices in food and let your thoughts be known. Now is the time to let your voice be heard! There are many petitions circulating that you may want to sign. A good place to start is an organization called the NON GMO PROJECT that is very informative. http://www.nongmoproject.org In November of 2012 California nearly passed a label law (prop 37).  It failed due to lack of education and huge dis-information campaign against it by big-bio. I can’t help but wonder…if they are so proud of their GE crops, why don’t they want to take credit for them on the label?
