books

I’m a bit of a book nerd. Well in truth, I’m just a nerd, but that’s a whole other story for a whole other blog. At any given moment in time I’m reading three books. Why you ask? Well, typically I read based on my mood. Sometimes I just want a big laugh, and if that’s the case, Judd’s book below will do the trick! Want to get lost in a story of love and war? (Who wouldn’t especially on a rainy day?) Just crack The Nightingale and you’ll be lost for hours.

Given the choice, I can go days without TV. In fact, I prefer it. A good book with a kitty and a cup a tea really puts me in my happy place. And given the stress load of the average American, I can honestly say, I think a good book is the best prescription to just about anything, except peanut allergies, with that you’re just screwed.

As we swiftly approach fall, the weather will start to turn, activities and socials will rise and it’s the perfect time to stick your nose in a good book – even if it’s for thirty minutes. Did you know that some of the top tech execs in Silicon Valley and Austin carve out time in their calendars everyday for reading? Gah! no wonder they are CEO’s; they have figured out that to truly have work-life balance you actually have to have a life! What a concept. So here is my prescription for you, read one or all of these nine books. They will change your life in more ways than one!

9 popular books everyone should read this fall

You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day. From being homeschooled and growing up in an isolated childhood, Felicia creates a funny memoir about her awkward climb to becoming famous.

Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee. Set two decades after To Kill a Mockingbird, this book shows that change is inevitable, even when it comes to family. Set during political turmoil, anyone who reads this can relate to its’ richness, passion, fear and doubt that Jean encounters along her journey of coming home.

A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler. We all have family, and we can all relate to its’ nonsense, complexities, compassions and support. Anne does a great job weaving a story of love, and spirit into this book. A wonderful guilty pleasure to wash away the day.

The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah. This is a bit heavier than I like to read. A story of war, family and of course no story is complete with love. A beautiful book about the war through women eyes and the insurmountable decisions they had to make everyday just to stay alive.

Sick in the Head by Judd Apatow. A true genius. His vision is clear and his humor is relatable – something all of us good use in our life, to have a good laugh and get shit done. Here he shares some hilarious conversations with some of the biggest names in hollywood and comedy.

Brain Maker by David Perlmutter. An excellent book to have your bookshelf. There is a massive epidemic going on with our health, and science is learning that it has to do with our micro biome. Don know what that is? Yea I didn’t either, but read the book and you’ll be wondering why the hell you’ve been eating Cheetos.

Primates of Park Avenue by Wednesday Martin. Think your life is ridiculous? Feel a little out of control? Well this book will be the game changer. Funny, outrageous and dare I say unbelievable?

Gods and Kings by Dana Thomas. Even if you are not a fashionista, this book highlights the creativity and ingenuity of two brilliant men who rocked the fashion world with their theatrical and shocking designs. Their vision turned fashion into a multi billion dollar empire, putting high fashion in high demand.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. If you struggle with clutter this book will take everything you have ever learned about it, and throw it out the window! Marie teaches you how to get down and dirty about removing clutter by four simple categories, and her take no prisoners attitude will force you to come face to face with your clutter demons!

So there ya have it. My current list of must-reads. And don’t feel pressured to read them all. I get it, we’re all busy, but make it a goal to knock out one or two, I promise all nine are well worth the time!
