This year David and I got the Kindle Voyage for Christmas. It’s much smaller than our original kindle, which at first I wasn’t sure I liked, but it’s small size is growing on me. It has a ton of fancy features that I have absolutely no idea how to use, but when it comes to reading, I like that Im turning the page more often than the old kindle; makes me feel like I’m one of those fancy speed readers. Plus it fits in my favorite new clutch from Nordstrom’s. 🙂
9 best new books to read
This year I’ve downloaded 9 books that are getting a lot of buzz, including Leah Remini’s Troublemaker. Scientology aside, every girl could learn something from a gal with so much courage. It takes a lot of guts to stand up against an entire church, knowing full well they won’t go down without a fight. Think about all the injustice in the world. Now think about all the injustices towards women, and those who never speak their truth. Beth Stelling, an amazing kick-ass comedian, was in an abusive relationship with a man who beat and raped her multiple times, but she feared backlash, shame and guilt – and the fear alone almost prevented her from speaking about it. Thankfully she is speaking up. Needless to say, I think every woman and teen girl should read Leah’s book. It’s a true testament to the power and strength we all possess, and the courage we need to portray.
Another book I’m excited to get open is Mindy Kaling’s, Why Not Me? I’ve already peeked inside and read the first few chapter’s and it’s laugh-out-loud funny. Anyone who can take women’s everyday neurosis, and anxieties and lay them out on the table for the world to relate to and laugh at is definitely one worth reading. I don’t know about you, but her self deprecating words shows us all that we are all the same, and we all have fears to overcome.
So enough about all that. Here’s a great list of self help, the power of what YES can lead to, glamour, courage, humor, lovin’ on your house and even a little etiquette just for good measure, because in my opinion we can all use more of it. Happy reading!
